Once upon a time, far far away land, there lived a Prince named PaniSuria. He was the only son of King Panihandsome and Queen PaniCantik. They stayed in the kingdom of Fericirea, the land of fortune, with the richest blessings of the TuhanKurnia and full of happiness. The Kingdom of Fericirea is surrounded by the sea, with fruitful berries, fish and a huge variety of food to support its people. But, Prince PaniSuria was not a happy price. He was always singing a lonely song along with him

"Lonely i am so lonely, I have nobody,To call my owwnnn Lonely I m so lonely, i m mr. Lonely, I have nobody, To call my owwnnn, I m so lonely"

Although he has everything he wanted in the castle, it was never enough to make him happy. An enchanted rose garden, a tremendous comeliness, a calm and soothing playroom with thousands upon thousands of toys. But Prince PaniSuria still cannot feel the happiness. The happy face would never appear but only the sadness and loneliness in his eyes.

People in Fericirea Kingdom were not aware that their lovely prince was feeling lonely.

Prince Panisuria always mumbled: I am living in this big castle, but my papa and mama are too busy. I have no buddy to talk to, no friends to play together with! These bobololo car, sweet Yammy Yammy cookies, sukisuka playground is meaningless with me all alone to play with. Arhhh... I am so bored!! I am alone....

The loyal Manis, Masam, Pahit, and Pedas of Prince tell him that there lived a legendary wise man deep inside a secret forest called ParniHarmoni. Soon, the men of the prince, Manis, Masam Pahit and Pedas travelled to the woods of ParniHarmoni , the secret forest to search for the wise man, PutihPutih . They wanted to invite him to Fericirea kingdom to meet Prince PaniSuria.

Prince Panisuria told PutihPutih about his loneliness and sadness. PutihPutih understood and said to him: "Don’t worry, my little prince, I’ll help you". Then, PutihPutih cast a spell out from his incantation: "GuluGuluWalaWalaBaliBaliBumb"!

Immediately, PutihPutih turn Prince Panisuria in Macalister Park. The park where children play and luagh together. Then PutihPutih told Prince Panisuria: "Here my little prince, before you start making friends, I shall give you these 7 magic words : Be confident to when you talk, Be polite, Be truthful, Be Selflessness, Be Respectful, Be Kindn and always listen".

After PutihPutih told the price about the magic words, PutihPutih disappeared, leaving Prince Panisuria with the magic words to play. When Prince try to talk to the children, immediately, Prince Panisuria felt no more sadness and loneliness. He knew that he had walk his first step to make friends. When the Prince Panisuria recite the magic words, miracle happened. All the children came to him, talked to him, and they finally played together. Prince was enjoy playing and he no longer lonely.

Prince Panisuria always remembered the 7 magic words: Be confident to talk, Be polite, Be truthful, Be Selflessness, Be Respectful, Be Kindness, and always listen. He tell himself, "I MUST BE CONFIDENT WHEN I TALK, I MUST BE POLITE, I MUST BE TRUTHFUL, I MUST BE SELFLESS, I MUST RESPECT OTHERS, I MUST BE KIND AND I MUST ALWAYS LISTEN TO OTHERS"

Since then, happy face is always on Prince PaniSuria’s face. On his 10th birthday, he received a lot of birthday greetings from all around the world. Can you remember his magic words?

- THE END-

Thank you for all helping me and guide me. i think with this revise version, the grammar mistake will be eliminate :)

if there is no more comment, i will used this as my puppet show.

story framing: help me to create story

Alex send us the useful guideline about the story framing - Legends

maybe i can try to used this as frame, and help me to make a picture, then i will add the adjective, methphors or linking words that make the story lively.

Step 1 – The Setting:

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there lived a Prince name PaniSuria. He was the only son of King Panihandsome and Queen PaniCantik. They stayed in the kingdom of Fericirea, the land of fortune, with the richest blessing of The TuhanKurnia and full by happiness. The Kingdom of Fericirea is surrounding by the seas, having the fruitful berry, wealthy of fishes and many kind of food to support the people.

Step 2 – The Problem is.....
And yet, in this beautiful Fericirea land, the Prince PaniSuria was unhappy, he was always singing a song along with him"Lonely i am so lonely, I have nobody,To call my owwnnnLonely I m so lonely, i m mr. Lonely, I have nobody, To call my owwnnn, I m so lonely"Although having everything in the castle, an enchanted rose garden, a tremendous comeliness playroom with thousand upon thousands' of toys, Prince PaniSuria cannot feel the happiness. The happy countenance would never appear but only the sadness.
Step 3 – The failure to solve the problem
People in Fericirea Kingdom were not aware that their lovely prince is always alone.
Prince Panisuria always mumbled: I am living in this big castle, but my papa and mama are too busy. I have no buddy to talk with and no people to play together! This, the bobololo Car, this, the sweetest Yammy Yammy cookies, and this sukisuka play ground are too empty with only me! Arhhh... I am so boring!!

Step 4 – Then a hero comes along....

The Prince Panisuria entourages, the loyalty Manis, Masam, Pahit, and Pedas told the Prince PaniSuria that there lived a legendary wiser in the Fericirea Kingdom, inside the deep woods at secrect forest called ParniHarmoni. Soon, the men of prince, Manis, Masam Pahit and Pedas travelled to the deep woods of ParniHarmoni secret forest to search for the legendary wiser, the PutihPutih and to invite him come to Fericirea kingdom to meet Prince PaniSuria.

Step 5 – And he has a plan.
The prince Panisuria told wiser about his loneliness and sadness. The wiser understood and said to him: "No worry, my little prince, i'll help you". Then, PutihPutih spell out his incantation: "GuluGuluWalaWalaBaliBaliBumb"!Immediately, PutihPutih and Prince Panisuria appeared in front of the Macalister Park. Then PutihPutih said to the Prince Panisuria: "Here my little prince, before you can make your friend, i shall give you these 7 magic words: Be confident to talk, Be polite, Be truthful, Be Selflessness, Be Respectful, Be Kindness, and always listen, then you will chase away the loneliness.

Step 6 – And the Solution is found!

The prince knew had walk his first step to make friends. When the prince Panisuria spelt the magic words, miracle happend, the children at the Macalister Park all came to him, talked to him, and they played together. He was lonely no more. He remembered the 7 magic words: Be confident to talk, Be polite, Be truthful, Be Selflessness, Be Respectful, Be Kindness, and always listen.
Step 7 – The Happy Ending
Since then, the happy face appeared and Prince PaniSuria was lonely no more. At his 10th Birthday, he received a lot of greetings from around the world. Can you remembered his magic words?

Skeleton Story from Alex

The Lonely Prince
A long time ago there lived a lonely Prince. He had a beautiful kingdom but no friends to play with. He sent his men to find the wisest in his land so that he doesn’t have to be lonely any more. The wisest taught him ways of how to make friends and he was lonely no more.

Thinking of, how can make this story lively, be more attractive and interesting. i start to crack my head and think, what am i going to write in the start of the story, it's seems like fairly tale story, that the prince no friends to play, and do not know how to make friends.

maybe i try a little part... start a bit....
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a lonely Prince name PaniSuria. He is the only prince of the King Panihandsome and Queen PaniCatik, the kingdom of Paniharmoni land. Prince Panisuria was not happy, although he has given a personal wood car, there is a beautiful garden in the kingdom, and unlimited playroom with thousand of toys. The Prince Panisuria would often stand on the castle ramparts and look down at the young people playing in the square and sigh. He wish to play and make himself joint together with them.

people in the land do not knew why Prince Panisuria was lonely, as he lived in a big castle with all his family and servants, and there was always someone wherever he went. But no matter how many people were with him, the Prince still always felt lonely.

The King Panihandsome and QueenPaniCantik is busy looking after the people of the land. They are always going out doing work and visiting the poor people, helping them. and they do not aware of the Prince PaniSuria conditions, that he is not happy, and feeling lonely. The Prince PaniSuria was moody and moody when times oes by...

the servant, the loyalty Hitam Manis, the always follower of the Prince PaniSuria tell him that in the land there is a wiset man whi lives in this ParniHarmoni land.

The Prince Panisuria decided to sent his servants to go reach for the wiset man, and teach him how to be not lonely anymore.

........ ..............

using the English to write a story... let my inner child to come out and let go....
but, i don't have any idea... HOW to do...

after work, i phone up my immediate boss, she is my friends and also a very helpful senior for me in my workplace. i can tell: she is very helpful boss, humour, not calculative, god listener... in words...she is good lah...

Taffy and the Invisible Magic Bandage #2

Problem(s) Addressed:
A child displaying symptoms consistent with undisclosed trauma and/or abuse.

Children 12 and under: particularly effective for very young children. For a child who has been threatened, this story, in combination with others, seems to be most effective when recorded on audio tape; this allows the child to hear the stories repeatedly. The audio tape can begin with empowering stories such as, “The Hero,” “The Boy Who had to Catch a Dragon” and “The Lion in the Hole” using the child’s name in these three stories. Make the story appropriate for the child’s sex, by changing the story character and pronouns. Then add “Rags/Taffy,” and stories such as, “The Little Fox,” “The Prickly Burr,” “The Burned Tree” and “The Big War.”

Let the family know that it doesn't matter if the child seems to be paying attention to the tape; the messages are heard by the wise part of the child, even when he/she is not paying conscious attention. (See “Letter to Parents”, Appendix D). When telling this story in therapy, have a large stuffed dog1 and a large bandage available. At the point in the story where Rags/Taffy gets an invisible magic bandage on his/her mouth, have the child put the bandage on the dog’s mouth. When Rags/Taffy pulls the invisible magic bandage off his/her mouth, have the child do the same to the dog.

If this story agitates the child, it can mean that he/she has had an undisclosed traumatic experience. Therefore, have the family play the tape after the child has fallen asleep for several nights. Once the child discloses what is bothering them, the agitation and dislike of the stories usually disappears.

MESSAGE
The power of a child is to tell the truth and keep telling the truth about what has been bothering him/her to adults who are powerful and can protect children. (Note description of symbols and metaphors in this story in “Understanding the Use of Therapeutic Stories” in the beginning of this book)

Symbols and Metaphors:
  • Nighttime activities (chase bugs, etc.): not afraid of dark
  • Journey into the deep woods: any period during which the child was traumatized
  • Invisible magic bandage: any threat or reason that the child is silenced
  • Disappear: any threat or negative consequence of disclosing a traumatic experience
  • Thorn: pain of silence
  • Swim: cope appropriately with feelings
  • Bandage "hurt" as it was removed: pain and fear that can result when a traumatic experience is disclosed
Elements of the Story That Can be Changed:
The constellation of the family can be changed, the symptoms that the child is having. The people who question the puppy (If a family member is suspected as abusing the child, use “someone” or “teacher” or “friend” instead of family).

Note:
This story was written for a four-year-old boy who appeared to have been threatened by his father not to disclose the abuse which occurred during visitations. The child was read the story and the story was audio taped at the same time. Shortly after leaving that therapy session, he began to disclose the abuse to his mother. She played the story to him many times, as I had recommended, and he continued to disclose very traumatic and extensive sexual and physical abuse. Note that the story does not give specific details which would lead a child to disclose one type of abuse over another. Rags/Taffy has been found to be an effective means to encourage young children to disclose the source of their symptoms.

Symptoms of being traumatized by a variety of experiences can look very similar. It is important to remember that a child can experience an event as very traumatizing when an adult would have little reaction to the same experience. For example, one child disclosed that a classroom bully was calling him "Luke, the Puke" and tearing up his papers in class. The symptoms ceased when this problem was handled.

Disclosure stories give a therapist an addition technique in helping child deal with traumatic experiences.

Taffy and the Invisible Magic Bandage

Taffy and the Invisible Magic Bandage by Nanvy

Once upon a time there was a puppy named Taffy. Taffy lived with her family and loved to play all day long. She wasn't afraid of much at all and everyone said that she was an adventuresome puppy.

Taffy often went exploring all around her home, looking under rocks and barking at bugs and spiders. She especially loved the evening when the sun went down, because she could chase lightning bugs and howl at the moon with the other animals

One day Taffy went on a journey into the deep woods, and when she returned she was different from the old Taffy. She was afraid to go to sleep and afraid to be away from her family. She had nightmares and shook with fear when anyone mentioned the idea of looking under rocks or going out alone at night. She often got stomach aches, and her head hurt a lot, too.

Now her family noticed that Taffy had not been the same since her journey into the deep woods, and they asked the puppy to tell them why she had changed. But Taffy was unable to talk about her journey, because while she was in the woods she had gotten an invisible magic bandage over her mouth and was told that if she removed it, she would disappear. Taffy must have really been afraid that she would disappear, because she left the bandage in place, even though everyone around her kept asking her why she was acting so differently. It especially made Taffy afraid when they asked her questions, because she was sure that if the bandage came off surely she would disappear. When the subject of the deep woods came up she paced and ran around in circles because of all the feelingsthat she had inside. She turned her back on those who questioned her and felt like she was sick to her stomach.

One day Taffy was stuck by a thorn, and she cried in pain. Her family knew that she had been in the thorn bushes and they asked her where she hurt, but the invisible magic bandage kept her from telling them. Those around her tried guessing: "Is it in your leg?" "Is it in your front paw?" "Is it in your ear?" But no one could find out where the thorn was, and it continued to hurt the puppy more and more. Taffy knew it was in her tail, and she couldn't get it out by herself. Her family finally got very upset with Taffy and told her that she must tell them where the thorn was so that they could help her. But Taffy remained silent. She still had the invisible magic bandage in place and she was more afraid to take it off than she was to keep the thorn in her tail.

One day, one of the other dogs, a mean old mutt named Spot, began to bully Taffy.
"I'll bet you don't even know how to swim," he said in a nasty way. "Of all the dogs in the world, you're probably the only one who was ever born who doesn't know what to do in the water. Ha!" On and on went Spot, teasing and poking fun at Taffy, until Taffy began to realize that the old dog was just talking to hear himself talk.

Going to the edge of the water (and more than just a little bit scared), Taffy waded in, moved her paws and her body, and went quickly across the pond. She could swim. The old dog had tried to trick her, but Taffy understood that children can figure out when they are being tricked. Taffy had found out that she did have the power to figure out the difference between a lie and the truth.

After her experience with Spot, Taffy began to wonder about the invisible magic bandage. She began to realize that she had been tricked into thinking that she must never remove it. So Taffy raised her paw to her mouth. Carefully she pulled at it, and it hurt a little as it came off, but Taffy did not disappear. With a great feeling of relief at being rid of the bandage, she ran home and told her family about it. Then she told them where the thorn had been stuck in her tail and asked their help in removing it. She'd had the thorn in her tail for so long that it hurt a little as it was being removed, but she felt relief once it was out.

Soon after that, Taffy went back to being her old self, chasing after lightning bugs and staying up at night. She found that it was easier to sleep; she stopped having nightmares and wasn't afraid to be alone anymore.

And to make sure that she never got an invisible magic bandage again, Taffy told everyone all about the journey into the deep woods and how afraid she had been to talk about it. And the more she told the truth the safer and more powerful she felt, because Taffy had discovered that the invisible magic bandage was not magic at all - it was only there to keep her quiet. Taffy had learned a lesson that she would always remember:
talking to trusted adults who protect children about her journey into the deep woods, helped her to feel powerful and secure.

3 skeleton stories

i am unable to find the relevant pages in TUOS in elgg group page... so, i asked alex to send me a copy via email. i did check v seok binn and phaik nee, whether they notice about this? Both of them answer me that they unable to find the resources in elgg pages too? so, is it the elgg having problem? how come we didn't notice that? weird...

nvm... i get it other way from alex too..
below is the msg forward from alex

Below are the 3 skeleton stories as promised. If you have forgotten the task please listen to the online tutorial 08th July 2009 to remind yourself again.

The Magic Stone.

There was a little girl who sometimes felt scared and small. She had a magic stone that she carried in his pocket. When she rubbed the stone, she would turn into a big strong cheetah and she could take care of herself. She was a wise cheetah who knew how to use her words. When she rubbed the stone again she would turn back into a girl. The cheetah wisdom stayed with her always.

The Skunk Family

Shaun was a member of the stinky skunk family and he had to learn how not to spray the people he loved most when he got angry. Spraying others only made them angry too. Shaun needed to learn how to use words instead of his sprayers. Shaun, little boy skunk got lots of chances to practice using his words and other things too (like learning how not to take things, to ask first, not to play with knives or matches, etc.)

The Lonely Prince
A long time ago there lived a lonely Prince. He had a beautiful kingdom but no friends to play with. He sent his men to find the wisest in his land so that he doesn’t have to be lonely any more. The wisest taught him ways of how to make friends and he was lonely no more.

Notes

Therapeutic story-telling is a powerful tool parents can use to help their children understand their feelings and behaviors. The exercise will help you build your own repertoire of therapeutic stories.

What is therapeutic story-telling? What can it do for children?

Therapeutic story-telling helps children understand abstract feelings in concrete ways. The third

person setting of the story is non-threatening to children. Events and feelings get to make sense.

The power of the third person gives children the capacity to grieve losses and practice “new

parts” and new ways of thinking about themselves and their world. Overwhelming emotional

experiences are made manageable in left/right brain communication. Story-telling can help with

social issues too. Stories can help children learn how to regulate their emotions, build motivation

to behave positively, organize painful life experiences and practice more give and take in their

family relationships.

Tips:

· You don’t have to be an expert; you have an audience of one.

· Choose the right time of day for your child

· Choose characters that work for your child

· Your tone of voice can make a huge impact.

· Choose issues that come up and then change it a bit (our child doesn’t like it if we get too close to being “real”).

· Think ahead about the point or message that you want to convey.

· As you and your child get comfortable, encourage co-creation with your child. He/she may start with simply naming the characters or choosing them, but later on they may be able to choose the topics or even share things they need to talk about through the story topic selection.

· Keep it simple. Go with your gut.

· There needs to be a plot where some kind of crisis occurs and it gets worked out somehow, through talking, using words, practicing, etc. It is almost like helping them develop a thought process to learn how to problem solve.

Topic Ideas:

· Feelings of loss and attachment.

· Other developmental issues like anger, biting, spitting, rages, lying, using your words, transitions (like drop off and pick up time at school), talking about things you are afraid of (how to talk about them with words), handling disappointment, handling really strong feelings (when you cannot even think straight).

· How to talk about abstract things like telling the truth and other family values.

· Little things like: patience, waiting for mama to be done talking on the phone, how to act when people come over for dinner, handling the excitement at holidays, saying thank you, saying hello and good bye, how to talk on the phone, how to use your words to let people know what you need, how to say phrases like “I don’t know” when you don’t know how you feel. How to pick up your toys. How to act at a birthday party.

The little Match Girl: Reflection

Alex ASKED:
Is there any reason you may be aware of, for your choice of this particular story?
Was there any specific aspects of the story that stood out for you?
Which character in the story did you fell most drawn to?
If there was a moral or message in the story what would that be?
If you could change any element in the story, what would you change?
What would you like to happen next in the story?

Ya. i do have my own reason to choose the little match girl for the story telling mode.

it make me think of the world, now adays, there is much more little girl/ or little boy like little match girl who is sufering , but no one willing to give a hand to help, and people are inexorability, not helpful, and selfish

if there is any human being in the world, at the space, willing to give a hands, then the little match girl, wont' dyieng in the little corner, and starving...

she only have 3 little wishes to be fulfill,
eat a good meal,
enjoy the new years with loves one
and hafing attention and love from loves' one

when i reading this story, it's remind me of a sad experience... when some one significant sick, and nobody woulod help u, the feelings is really helpless, and lonely...
the little match girl is so poor, and yet, the little boy still took away her shoes. and she have to walk in the cool snowing night. So bad lah the boy
kicking the little match girl's shoes as football,
if i am having the power, i wish i can give a lesson for the boy, take him away and punish him, so that he will not do this to the little match girl

i know, in the end, the
little match girl die i at a corner. but she is smiling happily. Author didn't used the words, little match girl had "DIE", but just closed the eyes and sleep happily. As the little match girl is with Nanny, at the side of GOD. when i was young, i am not understand, why the little never wake up.
now i understand... the little girls have been suffer for whole life, and she is having fantasy of the own world, experienced the hallucination to avoid the suffering
she is DIE. but she die happily, without pain

If I could change any element in the story,
i will make the little girl meet with an auntie Priscilla or Uncle Alex, who is kind and be nice to little girl, give her a shelter and she can be somebody. At least, if not encounter with someone is kind, just able to sell the matches and get some food, hot soup, bread and a place to overnight, but not dying at the corner. it's really so up sad.

WHY, human just can't show a little compassion? though this is a stranger??
what you do now, might change the person whole life.
WHY people must be so ignorant, and selfish to give? life is not always about take, sharing and give is the most felicity

when i think back, and looking the stories and my stories,
sometimes, i will asked my self... and question about LIFE

and, it also remind me of Forrest Gump movie
Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
Forrest Gump is an endearing story of a man who despite having an I.Q that is lower than an average person still had the courage to do great things and lived a noble humbled life. I’m sure the reason why he had the courage to do some of the things he did is because he never understood fully the possible consequences to his actions…thus he has no fear. Like when he went back into the jungle during the Vietnam War to save his platoon … he probably doesn’t realise what could happen if the enemy caught him.

i want to make my life, something different

and i wish to make other's people life different...
and i know, it's hard to not let the tragedy like the Little Match Girls Repeat.
but, i remind myself,
Lend a hand, YOU can make a different!

ways to use Therapeutic Stories

just would like to share on what i has read from Nancy Davis
http://www.therapeutic-stories.com

Do not interpret the stories as they are designed to talk to the unconscious, which interprets the stories according to the needs of the listener. interpreting moves the story into the conscious mind and diminishes their power, make sure that you change and individualize stories to fit the listener.

  • For children age 1-8 years or younger, make an audio tape of about 30 minutes with stories designed for the presented problem during the first or second therapy session. if the child is younger, tell "The Hero" first, inserting the name of the child. Ale the child questions as you record stories, since a young chil likes to hear their own voice. If the child seems to have been traumatised and needs to talk about it, including the story "Rags" or "Taffy". Have the parent or caretaker play the story tape as the child goes to bed. It does not matter if the child is asleep while tape plays, since the messages from the stories are heard by the unconscious
  • Add new stories to the story tape as therapy progresses and the needs of the child changes
  • If a parent calls about a first appointment for a child who has been traumatised and will not talk about their trauma, send the chid a tape of stories with your voice so that they will already find you a comfort when the first sessions begin

  • Stories can be grouped for a variety of problems, including the following: symptoms and problems related to experiencing abuse and trauma, grief and loss, school and academic problems, social difficulties, rebelliousness, and oppositional behaviour, self image, expression of feelings, questions as to why something happend, anxiety, fears and phobias, rape, trauma, distorted perceptions, etc.
  • Record stories on child's tape that are designed for their paren; the parent's unconscious will listen and learn

  • Have family listen to the tape when leaving or coming to therapy
  • Give the parens stories to read to their child. Have the parent make tapes of stories for their child. Three stories can heal both the parent and child. (only do this if parents will not sabotage the stories). This technique can be used in therapy sessions, i.e., parent of child removed from home because of abuse can read a story picked by therapist to their child in a session.
  • If a child or adolescent begins the therapy and refuse to talk, begin reading therapeutic stories. do not explain whay you reading the stories. Read stories that you believe will help the problems. If you read stories that are not for their problem, their unconscious will ignore them and focus on stories that are appropriate for them. When the session is over, say "see you next week". If the child goes to sleep during the session, continue reading anyway.... their unconscious will listen. generally by the third session, the child begins to talk. The messages of the stories tell them you understand and are there to help them heal.

  • If you are a pscyhologist, assigned to test a child who refuse to be tested, after establishing that you are going to sit with them until they take the test, begin to read therapeutic stories. Generally they will begin taking the test after several stories are told.

constructing a therapeutic story - checklist

  1. identify the emotional problem or issue
  2. set a therapeutic objective - What would you like to change?
  3. think of a strategy to achieve the change
  4. base the story in a methaphorical conflict in terms that the child can relate to - a character, a place, a plot - grappling with the same emotional problem as the child. What similar stories or real life experiences could be used?
  5. start constructing the story by thinking out the ending in outline and then list the main stages on how to get there. ( Start establishing a similar situations, crisis, bridge to change, change, positive journey, positive outcome, celebration) situation
  6. write the start - set the scene
  7. develop the plot by showing the main character using similar methods to deal with the problems as those used by the child - personify unconscious processes and potential
  8. reach a metaphorical crisis
  9. construct the shift, the change of direction, using parallel learning situations. use a bridge section to avoid moving too quickly
  10. show the journey from crisis to positive solution and a new sense of identification
  11. end the story with a celebration and sense of community

What is story telling?

Storry telling let me think of "The Big Fish" , a 2003 fantasy drama film, directed by Tim Burton and written byJohn August It is loosely based on the novel Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions by Daniel Wallace and Stars Ewan macGregor, Albert Finny, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Alison Lohman, Steve Buscemi, Helena Bonham Carter, Marion Cotillard and Danny DeVito, among others. The Story is about the Will Bloom (Crudup) returns to his family home in Abama, having spent the past three years not talking to his father Edward (Finney). Dying, Edward recounts his life story in his own unique, exaggerated way, full of fantastic events (portrayed in these flashbacks by McGregor). Will tries to get to know his father and find the truth, discovering that his father did lead an extraordinary life and that his storytelling was his finest achievement.

well, well

story telling
is the conveying of events in words, images, and sounds often by improvisation or embellishment. Stories or narratives have been shared in every culture and in every land as a means of entertainment, education, preservation of culture and in order to instill moral values. Crucial elements of stories and storytelling include plot and characters, as well as the narrative point of view.
The earliest forms of storytelling are thought to have been primarily oral combined with gestures and expressions. Rudimentary drawings scratched onto the walls of caves may be forms of early storytelling for many of the ancient cultures. The Australian Aborginal people painted symbols from the stories on cave walls as a means of helping the storyteller remember the story. The story was then told using a combination of oral narrative, music, rock art and dance. Ephemeral media such as sand, leaves, and the carved trunks of living trees have also been used to record stories in pictures or with writing.

The evolution of technology has changed the tools available to storytellers. With the advent of writing, the use of actual digit symbols to represent language, and the use of stable, portable media stories were recorded, transcribed and shared over wide regions of the world. Stories have been carved, scratched, painted, printed, or inked onto wood or bamboo, ivory and other bones, pottery, clay tablets, stone, palm-leaf books, skins (parchment), bark cloth, paper, silk, canvas and other textiles, recorded on film and stored electronically in digital form. Complex forms of tattooing may also represent stories, with information about genealogy, affiliation and social status.

Traditionally, oral stories were committed to memory and then passed from generation to generation. However, in the most recent past, written and televised media has largely surpassed this method communicating local, family and cultural histories.
